Update Potential Flooding 25th and 26th October 2019

Alert message sent 25/10/2019 11:05:00

Information sent on behalf of The Environment Agency

Good Morning,

We would like to update you about the forecast wet weather that is predicted to pass through Cumbria on Friday afternoon and into Saturday morning.  Rainfall totals for Cumbria are now lower than previously forecast.  The frontal band of rain will move in from the west around noon on Friday and track south-east across England and Wales during Saturday, with rainfall totals slightly higher over the South of Cumbria.  There is still some uncertainty over the northward extent of the heaviest rainfall, however at present we are not forecasting to be issuing any Flood Alerts or Flood Warnings across Cumbria.

We will have Environment Agency teams are out on the ground from Friday morning, throughout Friday night and Saturday until after the rain has passed, clearing debris screens and taking action to reduce the impact of flooding. We also have teams available to respond to any flooding incidents. We have already spoken to local authority and emergency services partners, to make them aware of the risk.
Be flood ready. It is important that you are prepared for flooding and we encourage you to take 3 simple steps:-
1.         Sign up to Flood Warning Service to receive free flood warnings
2.         Know what to do when a flood warning is issued.  We encourage you have a personal flood plan for you and your family
3.         Keep an eye on the situation.  You can view at 5 day weather forecast and monitor river levels online at https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/ and www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/
