Hate Crime Research

Alert message sent 11/02/2021 16:57:00

Information sent on behalf of Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch

This is a request from Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioners Office which you may find quite useful so please feel free to recirculate to all your contacts etc.

The Office of Police and Crime Commissioner is carrying out research into experiences of hate crime in the county. We know that, for many reasons, only a proportion comes to the attention of the police. The research aims to find out more about what hate crime is being experienced across the county and how well current services help those affected to deal with the impact. The aim is that the resulting report will help inform future partnership work and commissioning.
Finding people who are willing to speak about these sensitive experiences will be a challenge so we need your help:
  • Please share the online survey with service users, colleagues and anyone you know who may have experienced hate crime, or worked with someone who has. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/W9DLNDQ
  • Identify any individuals who would be willing to speak confidentially to Sandra Wiggin, our Victims' Advocate, about their experiences (whether personal or professional) and provide their details to sandra.wiggin@cumbria.police.uk We are working to tight timescales so please provide these as soon as possible and by 23rd February at the latest.
  • Share with us details of any groups or organisations who work with people who may have experienced hate crime.
The research is being funded by the Home Office as part of the Police Science, Technology, Analysis and Research (STAR) initiative.
Many thanks

Nicola Broomfield
Partnership and Strategy Manager
Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner

Many grateful thanks.
