Neighbourhood Watch in Rural Communities

Alert message sent 23/06/2021 13:29:00

Information sent on behalf of Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch

It is recognised that Neighbourhood Watch Schemes can make a real, long-lasting difference to communities: increasing cohesion and connectedness; helping to prevent crime; increasing neighbourliness and community wellbeing; supporting vulnerable people and increasing the voice of the community with councils, the police and other organisations.

In 2020 NFU Mutual compiled a Rural Crime Report which suggested that Communities should join and participate in Rural Watch Groups, using WhatsApp Groups for immediate updates on suspicious activity. With this in mind Cumbria Neighbourhood Watch Association are looking to work with rural communities to create localised groups using WhatsApp or any other social media platform, such as Facebook, Twitter, Email etc as a means by which we can better communicate with each other.

We are currently working with Cumbria Police, Police & Crime Commissioner and NFU to increase and extend Neighbourhood Watch across Cumbria and the reason for this message is simply to ask if you are still actively involved in your community as a member and also the extent you communicate with others and the means by which you communicate as well.

I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Kind regards
Joe Murray QPM
